The fact is that one needs the ID card for almost every thing:

For instance, when the police stops you, whether you are black, green or white, the head of state or .., the first thing they will demand is you ID card and the your diving licence.

You'll need you ID card when opening bank account, when borrowing books from the library, when you go to the job-center. If you collect money from Western Union/Money Gram, you'll need your ID card. If you collect parcel from the Post Office, you'll need it.

All these are goo because you just cant go to MoneyGramy and say, I'm Mr XXX so I want to collect my money: what would prove tha you are what you claim?

To be honest, it is very rare that police will meet you on the street and demand your ID. I lived in Germany for 30 and was controlled ONLY TWICE by the police.

Meanwhile the Schengen agreement has ONLY advantages for foreigners, because before that agreement, one would need visa for all member coutries. Because of the agreement, you only need a visa for a member coutry and you are eligible to visit any other member country. That is, if you collect a visa for spain, you can visit Germany, The Netherlands, belgiums etc. Formerly yould have to collect 4 visais to enable you visit all 4 countries.

So Mr HONESTY, stop writing what you have NO IDEA about !!

What is the AU and the UN, in Addis and in New York respectively, supposed to do to end street crime in any town in South Africa? It is easy enough to sit in Accra and mouth off in generalities. These events in South Africa have happened before - and in other African countries. When people are desperately poor, and they see their opportunities seeming to be taken by other people, such irrational acts occur. I daresay Ghanaians have indulged in such acts before. There is no doubt that there is a problem. The long history of apartheid in South Africa has been one of the causes of the plight of the South African underclass. Much as in Ghana, there are also people, who resist formal education. They would rather spend their considerable energies being antisocial. Ablakwa supported people in Ghana, who were intent or at least threatened to commit murder and rape of Ghanaian constitutional officers. Who is he to be making moral judgments. He forfeited that right when he supported would be rapists and murders.

Do you know how South Africa has allowed other African countries in bringing their bad cultures into the country? He should come here and visit Braamfontein, Hillbrow and Yeovilee before he talks that nonsense.

I have been here as a Ghanaian for long but it is sometimes sad how the media - even takes pixtures from Rwanda, Liberia and ascribed those things to anything that happens in SA just to get a backlash.

I have lived and travelled to countries but I can tell u - in authority that there is no country in this world that is soo liberal and open to foreigners like South Africa.U can have all institution administrators and leaders being foreigners, can that even happen in Ghana? How many Ashantis are in the Volta university and how many voltarians are heading Ashanti schools.

No one supports it but come and see how some Nigerians and others foreigners are acting as if the country is theirs. They should come here - spend some time and see things by themselves rather than them staying on radio and television in saying nonsense.

No country will allow what SA has tolerated after the vicious apartheid regime.
