This is very wrong. They Will invest heavily in campaign, then if they should win, exploit the state for 6 years and go away. The 4 years renewable is the only way to check them to some extent.

There are many other competent and interested people in the presidency. Keep it at 4 years for individuals. Even if the party is re-elected, let someone else become president.

4 years is more than enough -- most projects done by Mahama were done in the last 2 or so years anyway. Usually, the first 100 days is a strong indication of the strength of a president. The important thing is we should implement sensible, viable projects so that the next president can continue with them, instead of the politically driven projects that get abandoned by the next party in power.
in fact if we don't curb the corruption etc. in the system, 4 years becomes too long and unbearable for the people. Also, the 2 term limits is an incentive for a president to work hard, because it becomes disgraceful if the people fire you after your first term.

This should only work if there is legislation to curb the powers of an executive president and also to remove the incumbent if it is identified that continuation in office constitutes a liability to the country.

It is the quality of leadership plus implementing the development plan that will reduce unemployment, create industries, create social cohesion and not one or two terms or the years.

If we had mid-terms in this country, this would not be the story with Ishmael Yamson, Joe Abbey and a host of other people, organizations, think tanks all saying it is a huge gargantuan screaming mess. That is what we should be gunning for-the proverbial "a stitch in time saves nine", not a prolongation, because right off the bat, you can safely predict how it is going to end. And Ghana wasn't wrong in the specific case of this massively fired Mahama admin.

A single 6 year term for the Presidents may make them less accountable to the people since they won't have to bother about being voted out of office midway through their maximum 8 year term. It will unnecessarily prolong the stay of a none performing leader. A performing leader will most probably be reelected after 4 years.

If you can't make anything happen in 4yrs. What can you do for extra 2yrs. You are asking for, to sink us into the bottom of the pit ? People with no sense of direction always ask for extra time. You don't build bridges in cities, while your citizens can't meet their basic needs as human beings, (Food Clothing and Shelter ) this is inhumane. As a leader, you start from the bottom to the sky, like my late mother always said to me, you grow upward, you don't grow downward. N.D.C has sunk us, we need someone who can help us move forward, not backwards, so we are all testing the waters to see, and in four years, if we see some improvement then we will give him another chance to continue if not, then we will vote him out and try someone else. But we can't just sit and wait for a leader to continue messing things up and give him time to destroy everything that we've been able to aquire to be ruined before tossing him out.

I would suggest we go back to the Parliamentary or Westminster system of government where a Prime Minister would have unlimited term of office but would be accountable to parliament. In this system of government, a Prime Minister can be removed from office at any time especially when it is clear that he/she is not performing and that would lead to the party being voted out of office in the next election. We had it before and Nkrumah circumvented and aborted it for a Presidential system of government where he couldn't be checked by parliament. It was restored in 1969, but was overthrown by Kutu Acheampong. Presidential system of government was brought in 1979, with Rawlings championing it under AFRC. He got rid of it when he removed Limann from power.
I have always been a proponent of Parliamentary system of government. It will thrive in Ghana and Africa in general if given the chance. A referendum to go for it or retain the current system of government would be needed.
