The anti-NDC 'Daily Guide' newspaper, in agreeing to accept and publish President Mahama/NDC adverts has provoked criticism of proprietors Mr Freddy Blay [ who is the Acting Chairman of the Opposition NPP ] and his wife Gina, and a feeling of unease among some NPP politicians and supporters. Yes, newspapers are entitled to publish or reject adverts as they see fit. Gina Blay in deciding to run the NDC/President Mahama adverts decided on the financial benefit against the likely reputational and political damage. Well, at the end of the day, the Daily Guide newspaper, as a private company, needs money to survive. You've got to understand most newspapers in the print business live on advertising revenue, not really on principles. I'm sure Acting Chairman, Freddy Blay uses some of the income from the NDC/President Mahama ads in supporting NPP activities. And am sure the NPP does not contribute a penny towards Daily Guide's investments and survival.
What's all the fuss about the decision to run NDC ads in the Daily Guide? Of course, the ads carry and wrong political and embarrassing message for the NPP and the Blays, given the newspaper's politically partisan stance. However, one could also argue that publishing NDC/President Mahama's adverts does not equate to political support or editorial endorsement in that advertisement.
Principles? It is not a value in the greedy and slippery Freddy Blay. Not when money is involved or to be gained.
