  I think the major issue with the NHIS is that some Doctors and Physician Assistants prescribe medicines for the patients but when they get to the phaarmcies and or dispensaries, they are giving the cheap ones like paracetamo ...

  I think the major issue with the NHIS is that some Doctors and Physician Assistants prescribe medicines for the patients but when they get to the phaarmcies and or dispensaries, they are giving the cheap ones like paracetamols and the rest but when it comes to the hospitals asking for reimburesement, they send a bill for all the prescribes drugs as though they have been supplied to the patients, especially since the patient is not privy to what is being claimed and the NHIS authorities also would not know that not all the prescribed drugs have been supplied.
  I think the NHIS authorities or better still the govt should as a matter of urgency design a system which will make it impossible for the hospitals/ clinics to seek reimbursement for un-supplied drugs.One this is done, the mantra- NHIS is not working will stop once and for all.
