Under Kufuor and the NPP, Newmont Mining Company, set up shop in Ghana. It currently has a going concern in BA and another in the Eastern Region. The company commenced work in virgin territories for their business, in Ghana. It was the result of a good government in office, that attracted a conglomorate like Newmont to move out of their comfort zone to invest elsewhere. They have been paying huge dividends, besides levies and other tax revenues, to government since the middle of the last decade. The regions they operate have derived other benefits from the company's operations. They may not be perfect corporate entities but the void could be telling. Mr Blay said, a government with a visionary leader creates jobs and provides social interventions as well. No one can say otherwise of the Kufuor and the NPP era. The greatest of the Kufuor and NPP visionary leadership perhaps, was the successful exploitation of the oil and gas find in Ghana. Nothing compares to this enterprise in the history of the nation. The most important aspect of the NPP, is the depth of knowledge and quality of the members who make the group. They came into government in 2001, after thirty years in the opposition. Only two of Kufuor's key government appointees, have had experience in civillian government, five years in total, between Kufuor himself, as deputy foreign minister and J H Mensah who was the finance minster, in the 27 months rule, of the Busia government. Under the leadership of Nana Akufo Addo, who has privately, put up two top flight business concerns among others, the NPP can match the Kufuor administration's record achievements: economic, social interventions, social infrastructure developments, innovations in finance and banking, education, health etc etc. If Fredie Blay, the acting National Chairman of the NPP , talks about job creation, he has walked the talk and he is very sure about what he says. He has successfully turned a weekly, into a leading daily newspaper within a decade. Add Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in the equation and you will have a team to put Ghana high in world rankings in a matter of years.

What we need is government curtailing corruption to the barest minimum and creating enabling environment for her citizens to be their own employers. Therefore, if for political reasons Mr. Blay is saying job creation is their agenda, is FALSE. Let's try a third political force this time round and do away with NDC and NPP. NPP is too hungry for power. They should not be given the nod to rule. I think PPP or CPP will do.
