President of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana (AMJG), Justice Dennis Adjei, has called on members of the Association to continue to dispense justice without fear or favour.

According to Justice Dennis Adjei, who is an Appeals Court Judge, executives of the Association were working in conjunction with the Judicial Council and the government to ensure their safety.

Justice Adjei, who made the call at a press conference in Accra yesterday, explained that the utterances made by the two communicators on Accra-based FM station, Montie 100.1, over the weekend, undermines rule of law and the independence of the judiciary as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

“These uncalled for utterances tend to put fear in the Judges and Magistrates of Ghana who are vested with judicial power to administer justice under the 1992 Constitution,” he opined.

The Appeals Court Judge therefore, urged the general public to strengthen and jealously guard the judiciary as an important arm of government in the democratic dispensation.

Justice Adjei also seized the chance to caution both the electronic and the print media to be circumspect in their utterances and what they print to avoid things that have the potential to undermine the independence and integrity of the judiciary.
