Ghana will become the economic miracle of the 21st century – Dr. Nii Moi Thompson

Director General of National Development Planning Commission, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson says one of the main vision of the long-term national development plan is to transform Ghana into an “Economic Miracle of the 21st century in Africa.”
In an exclusive interview with Ghanaweb, Dr. Thompson explained that this was achievable if we put our shoulders to the wheel, change our attitude and further show commitment to the plan.

The 10 - 4 year - plan is earmarked to drive the long-term national development plan which will be a continuation of the 5 medium-term plans adopted by successive governments since 1996.

The key difference between plans of successive governments and the 10 succeeding ones, is that the latter will be shaped by a common national vision and the associated goals for Ghana’s long-term development.
“We believe we can become the Economic Miracle of the 21st century. We can achieve this if we work towards that. Anytime I mention this to people, they are excited about Ghana becoming the economic miracle of the 21st century on the continent.” he revealed.

“Through the Ghana Agency for Development Co-operation, we will be in a position to share our experiences to other African countries as regards our national development plan,” he added.

“Investors have been knocking on our doors asking when the plan is taking off. Because these investors are interested in long term projects. They always want to see a coherent long-term government framework for infrastructural development projects”, Dr. Thompson disclosed.

To ensure the plan remains relevant and current, parliament will review the plan every 10 years based on progress reports prepared by the National Development Planning Commission, with revisions reflecting for instance, the attainment of certain goals or targets, and the need to have new or modified ones in line with contemporary developments.
