Come to Sunyani and see for yourself coming Sunday that NDC Are given out money's to people that will vote for them if only you will accept to curse yourself in case your refuse to vote for them. Why don't they let their good works follow them. If you know you have done enough to get their votes why do you have to do that ? It is not rocket science. There are carpenters, tailors and seamstresses that make fantastic chairs and clothing in every district of Ghana. In some parts of the country palm and coconut oils are made every day of the year. There are also the garri manufacturers, etc.
All you have to do is to look at where the raw materials for these products are cheapest. The Technology Centre at UST made many of those machines some time ago.
Government only has to create the environment and get a few of those manufacturers together with soft loans and you can actually create several factories in every district of Ghana.

If this is your idea of a partisan shot at the NDC or President Mahama in specific, Philip K Baidoo, then you failed at it. You see what you have done, in my book, is to confirm a self-hatred and a lacky who thinks what "massa" thinks and says what "massa" says. Please tell me if there are no government owned K12 to universities in the US, UK, Canada and elsewhere? Or perhaps your layman's definition of government does not include local government? Mensa Otabil is a greedy bastard and let him or no one fool you. If we ever get to a time in our existence where the Christian God or the Muslim Allah starts liking governments or political parties then what we call God and or Allah is nothing but a human bogeyman.
You, Philip K Baidoo, Mensa-Otabil, Rockson Adofo, Justice Sarpong and others are where you are because of government schools, not a Mensa-Otabil church school, or any of the private schools in Ghana that demands payment in foreign currency; they are behind the advocacy for privatization of schools.
Look here Philip K. Baidoo, you may want to know that governments have failed Ghana because governments we have had since 1966 are enablers and that is what the UP/UGCC/Dombo or the Busia-Danquah clan was all about. Democracy is prosperous only in homogeneous societies and or multi cultural societies with caste system or a group that is forced to accept or acquiesce to lower class citizenship status. If you think Kufour was any better at government then ask or explain why the new institutions he forced on Ghana were short-lived while government threw money at them; they were unsustainable. Komenda sugar factory is a temporary failure because it is political season and the rush to have a record to run on trumps deliberate and thoughtful planning. It does not help that Kufour gave us India and now they are running some shows in Ghana when India is full of failed ventures, corrupt to the bone with its backyard full of American and EU business ventures while we see them as our ticket to development. China and Indian labour is cheap but they lack quality; the government got exactly what they invested in the Komenda sugar factory; cheap and unplanned expected results just like the unplanned investments into supplemental power generators that has been incapable of mitigating the dumsor problem. It's not government, stupid, it's the failure of a voter public who think there's something free in this world. God or Allah who happens to he our creators loves us but we earn our salvation; it's not free. Mensa Otabil went to public school did he not?

Please Mister Baidoo Smith drop that battered and tattered theory of ancient theory. Smell the coffee. Did we not have Germany, USA, Italy, England producing cheaper cars before Japan and later Korea came on the scene? How come Toyota and Hyundai have become market leaders in the auto-industry? Would Britain's cheap sugar be that cheap on our local market considering the scarce foreign exchange? Will sugar imports provide or generate the same level of economic activity with its attendant jobs for Ghanaians? You see this silly arguments were raised by saboteurs clothed in UP political garments against Nkrumah's attempt to industrialize Ghana through the imports substitution policy. This criminal plate is worn out drop it. So some of us were quite surprised when Kuffuor started talking about every district in Ghana having one manufacturing entity. No wonder it failed miserably only to be ressurected in recent days by the populist Nana. What a group of maurading saboteurs!

It is quite interesting how people seem to confuse two development path ideas ( strategies) which not necessary mutually exclusive. First is the " nativism" approach of economic development which suggests we we locally produce our needs to use our resources to generate employment and build local competencies. The second approach is "rational" allocation of resources for development based on the theory of comparative advantage.
The first approach believes that a local factory that uses local labor and or raw materials is strategically better in the long run for a nation even if its products are more expensive than imported ones as it encourages self reliance. Unfortunately the track record of this approach that appeals to nativists instincts has been abysmal due to the ugly manipulations of short sighted politicians for votes to stay in power. The second idea that Mr Baidoo talks about is the rational approach based on the theory of comparative advantage. That it is best for a country to import items that are cheaper than those produced locally which are expensive .
After all since no nation has unlimited financial and human capital , these capital must be rationed to achieve the optimum development pay-off or results. The study of Economics is the mastery of the best allocation of scarce resources, development economist tells. The IMF and the World bank who's is full of these Dev. Economist types thinks the nativitis approach is unstainable and wasteful. Well the sad truth is that , the reality of the real world economic development supports the nativitis approach despite the pontification of the Betten Woods institutions like the IMF and the WB and bench economist like Mr Baidoo that Kommenda is bad for development. Whilst the rational approach may be better allocator of scarce resources in the long run, most countries have the nativitis approach as their economic back bone.
Truth be told all the developed countries whose produce we view to be cheap dump their manufactured commodities on poor developing countries like Ghana. The cheaper sugar from the Uk, India, China, Brazil etc have nativists programs hidden behind them. I am sure Mr Baidoo has heard about Exim banks and foreign aid, grants and soft loans from India and China or the Westetn countries.
"The beautiful ones are not yet born " . 59 years and we still have not learned anything? We must not be drunk on the economics myopic theories we drink at the top universities. Nation building require common sense . It is very hard.
God bless our motherland Ghans. Peace!
