  Methodist University to withdraw over 1,400 students
  Students who face forced withdrawal from the Methodist University College are directing their anger at authorities for their fate.
  
  Over 1,400 of them are expected to lose their studentship because the National Accreditation Board insists they were admitted without the requisite entry grades.
  
  Some say they feel cheated, and are traumatized as they prepare to pack out of campus.
  
  Methodist University is not the only institution affected. A couple of months ago, the Central University College was also ordered to withdraw over 1,000 students.
  
  Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board, Kwame Dattey said the primary responsibility rest on the mentor universities to ensure that their affiliates comply with the admission requirements.
  
  A retired educationist, I.K. Gyasi however admonished prospective students to be cautious of applying to universities without possessing the requisite requirements.
  
  He cautioned that inasmuch as the private universities would be seeking to do what is right, they are also in business to make profit.
  
  He said it is dangerous for students to use false pretences to gain admission into universities as in the long run they would eventually be found out and they might lose out.

  Pentecost University sued over 'fraudulent' degree programme
  Eleven (11) past students of the Pentecost University have sued the University for 'defrauding' them into taking a phony degree in Communications Studies that the University falsely claimed was affiliated to the University of Ghana.
  
  The students are suing the embattled University and are demanding a total of Ghc2.94 million for their expenses within the four years of the course as: "compensation for the wasted years and the trauma and disappointment suffered."
  
  Attorneys for the extremely aggrieved students, PWAMANG & ASSOCIATES, filed the writ at an Accra High Court on January 4, 2015; and a copy has been intercepted by the Republic Newspaper.
  
  The 11 students- six females and five male students- claim they only found out after completing their four-year course that they cannot graduate because the course had no certification whatsoever from the Governing Board of the University of Ghana, dashing their hopes of ever earning a living with their course of study.
  
  The writ narrated the sequence of events leading to the decision to go to court, saying when they found out they have been 'duped' by the University, they made attempts to seek redress with the school's authorities and the school's students' support units, "but no positive results were achieved".
  
  According to the writ, "their legitimate expectation of graduating with a university degree and securing lucrative jobs or gaining promotion at their places of work has been dashed."
  
  The students are dreading the fact that they will have to start their university education all over again "due to no fault of theirs".
  
  For them, the private university owned by the Church of Pentecost, took advantage of their desire to pursue a university education to exploit them.
  
  Apparently, the students have been fooled into taking up studies in Communication Studies when they stumbled on the school's 'Admissions Viewbook' purporting to offer a course titled B.A. Communication Studies.
  
  The Plaintiffs consequently purchased admission forms and applied to the university for admission.
  
  The Republic Newspaper gathered that in June 2010, the Registrar of the University located in Sowutuom, in a suburb of Accra, wrote to them offering them admission to pursue a four- year program leading to the award of B.A. Information Technology. The Course was subsequently converted to B.A. Communication Studies in 2011.
  
  The students wrote in the writ that they accepted the offer of admission and paid the requisite admission and other incidental fees and were matriculated into the school to pursue B.A. Communication Studies.
  
  According to them, for the duration of their studies, they have paid all the fees and bought all the prescribed books and handouts, and also spending money on hostel accommodation, transportation and feeding.
  
  The enraged students stated that they completed their course of study in August 2014 and were to be graduated on the 20th of December 2014.
  
  " With the assurance that they would be graduating on the 20th of December 2014, they spent monies in preparation towards the graduation; they bought suits, invited families and friends and arranged parties to celebrate their academic success," the writ stated.
  
  However, in the middle of their preparations they were invited by the school's Registrar on the 15th December 2014 and informed that they could not take part in the 6th Congregation on the 20th December 2014. They were further informed that the Institution did not have the requisite approvals from the Academic Board of the University of Ghana for the B.A. Communication Studies program.
  
  The graduation was thus held on the 20th of December 2014 without them; "...all the time spent in 1st Defendant Institution, the monies spent on fees, books, handouts, hostel accommodation, transport and the preparations towards the congregation went to naught and this has caused them great embarrassment and disappointment," they fumed.
  
  The students insist that Pentecost University College fraudulently admitted them for the B.A. Communication Studies program.
  
  The situation of the 11 aggrieved students reechoes similar encounters students have had in the past with a burgeoning list of private Universities in the country. Several pose erroneously to be offering courses that have not been approved by the Ghana Accreditation Board leading to several face-offs between students and authorities of private universities.
  
  The situation had often drawn the attention of the Accreditation Board, which in the past couple of years has revoked licenses of some of these universities or closed some down straight away.

  These fraudsters have perfected the stealing game as they have practiced it on the gullible with the powers of immunity and now have taken it to the next level and this is where their criminal deeds will be exposed.
  The rush to build universities is NOT to educate the masses but lined up with the same appetite to build churches for money and NOT to save souls.

  Because of these private universities degrees from Ghana universities are no more respected overseas.Many of these private universities give so many first class and second uppers just to make their students competitive in the job market.what a shame!!!.Some even admit students without passes in English language.

  Central University Expels 695 Students
  Six hundred and ninety-five unqualified students who were admitted by the Central University College (CUC) to pursue various degree programmes this academic year have been expelled.
  
  That followed an order from the National Accreditation Board (NAB) which ensures that standards set by the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) are adhered to.
  
  The students did not obtain grade C6 or less in one, two or all three of the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Integrated Science or Social Studies in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
  
  Even though the CUC knew the students did not qualify, it admitted them on condition that they would re-write their examinations and better their grades within two of the four years they were required to complete their degree programmes.
  
  The students had paid fees to the university, some as much as GH¢1,600, and had begun lectures before the NAB order.
  
  Mr Kwame Dattey, Executive Secretary of the NAB, told the Daily Graphic that the requirements were not new and that the board had continuously educated the universities on those requirements.
  
  He said it was true that private universities were playing an invaluable role in the educational sector, but insisted that the right thing must be done.
  
  Mr Dattey said the board’s auditing team would continue to inspect tertiary institutions to make sure that they complied with the regulations set out by the NCTE.
  
  Head of the Public Relations, Mrs Laila Boafo-Foleson, said the university was taking some measures to mitigate the impact of the decision on the affected students.
  
  She said students who wanted a refund of their fees were to apply for them, while those who did not were to be given an option.
  
  She said the university was to sponsor a special mitigation programme that would provide the affected students the opportunity to expeditiously remedy their poor grades and explained that the programme was to begin on February 20, this year and run until November 2012 when students would sit the remedials.
  
  “The full cost of tuition for the programme is to be borne by the university,” she said.
  
  Mrs Boafo-Foleson said the university would also credit the first semester results of the affected students to them, adding that students who succeeded in redeeming their grades would resume their programmes of study in the second semester of the 2012/2013 academic.
  
  One of the affected students whom the Daily Graphic spoke with said, he was devastated by the development and had not yet decided what to do.
  
  He said he dreaded the “plenty talking my parents are going to do all over again because I did not pass in Maths”.

  The admission board of CUC has really deceived Ghanaians, why should they boycotts the requirements of admission setup by NAB who gave them the accreditation to operate in the country.   It speaks civilization, development, sophistications, advance systems, yet full of uncertainties, destructions, dangerous wars where a single missiles can eraze a whole continental to the middle ages through the crowd or internet applications. I guess, you might not understand as I understood, maybe, because of my IT knowhow compound with politics and the scriptures. Africa problems are not just technology, but our archaic leaders, who lack so much and don't want to pave way for those who know.
  
  We have sophisticated learnt men who cannot get acess to our leadership positions, because, their fathers or families were not famous politicians to use their names to come to power.
  Africa political systems enables rich and famous political children to rise to power quicker than their nothing could be family counterpart. And that is wrong shuffling of power. Nkrumah was good because of his upbringing and understandings.
