7 injured in Kawukudi junction accident

About seven persons have been injured in an accident at the Kawukudi junction in Accra.

The accident, involving a 207 Benz bus carrying passengers and a taxi cab occurred on Wednesday around 5 am.

The 207 bus traveling from Gold House on the Airport road to Accra turned on its side when the taxi from Pig Farm heading to the 37 Military Hospital area crashed into the back of the passenger bus.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, a passenger on the bus stated that “we were on our way from Ashiaman, and our vehicle was speeding and the taxi driver was approaching the Kawukudi junction on top speed, so the taxi hit our vehicle.”

According to her, the 207 bus “was very full, and about seven persons have been injured and they have been taken to the hospital.”

Both drivers have also been taken to the Police Station.

“We will go to the hospital, but we have our money and other personal stuff in the bus so we are waiting,” she added.

A Police Officer stationed at the Police Headquarters, Corporal Jacob Yani, who chanced upon the accident on his way to work said: “Upon reaching the traffic light, instead of them to slow down, everybody was rushing, then the taxi hit the back of the bus which caused the bus to somersault.”

He subsequently sought for help from the Nima Police Station to assist in the restoration of order because the situation was creating traffic.
