Just last week, one of the outlets affiliated to the Multi-Media Group, did a number on the media-happy ex- DCE of Ahafo Ano South[Mr. Barimah] by 'doctoring' a harmeless radio interview he had been coaxed into granting which led to his summary dismissal. Though the full interview clearly showed this 'poor gentleman' trying to provide some background to the "TWEEAA" 'nonsense' making the rounds in the country, the later story that was concocted portrayed him as a an unrepentant local politician who was basking in a new-found popularity.
I am glad the courts have signalled in recent rulings that the Judiciary wants no part of this 'sleezy' journalism!

Thanks Dr, but we are a country of children who think of our belly now, why won't everybody take us for-granted. If radio stations can receive so called eye witnesses calls and broadcast it direct to listeners, then what? We want to feed on sensation like he smokes wee, he has stolen money, he has a daughter outside marriage, he is sleeping with Legon girls and a whole lot of unverifiable general statements. So lets us keep listening to unproductive talk and see how we will develop with such an appalling attitude.

It has always been pathetic reading the Ghanaian journals. The standards are so low you wonder the targeted audience. No balance in the reportage and the journalist seems to be influenced in their writing in one way or the other.Objectivity is thrown to the dogs and the whole Ghanaian journalism had become something like stomach journalism. He who pays the piper calls the tune.In fact we have a long way to go.

When a panelist on the show drew his attention to this gaffe, this guy simply retorted by telling the panelist and listerners that he is the host of the show;and I guess could do whatever he wants! The amazing thing was that sat through the duration of the entire discussion.
And this guy really believes he is helping to "deepen" our democracy with a 'jaundiced' and unbalanced on air presentation? God help us in this country!

I dont blame the journalists, incompetent as they are. I blame the gullible, credulous readership who patronise them. The Ghanaian public deserves the journalists it has.

Part of the problem in Ghana is the low level of literacy and general intelligence which has created the tendency to believe things without questioning. I guess that is something that can be remedied only with broad but rigorous education. Unfortunately, the above deficiencies apply to the presumably educated journalists, as well as the general public they serve.
