E.T. Mensah Takes Over Education

President J.E.A. Mills has accepted the resignation of Betty Mould-Iddrisu as Education Minister and asked E.T. Mensah, in charge of Employment and Social Welfare Ministry to take up additional responsibilities at the Education Ministry

A press release signed by Koku Anyidoho, Director of Communications at the Presidency said the President thanked Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu for services rendered to the people of Ghana during the period she served in government.

The President also wished her well.

Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare has been assigned additional responsibility to oversee the Education Ministry until further notice. Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice tendered in her resignation letter at the presidency Monday.

She has been under pressure to resign over her handling of the payment of a judgement debt to Alfred Woyome, while she was Attorney General.

Her resignation comes days after President Mills fired his minister for Justice and Attorney General, Martin Amidu for misconduct.

Mr Amidu was dismissed from office shortly after the president issued an ultimatum for him to prove corrupt allegations against persons in the government or resign.

There has not been any public statements from the Presidency or government spokespersons on the reasons for the resignation.

Betty Mould-Iddrisu was previously the Head of Legal and Constitutional Affairs of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London before she was made Ghana's first ever woman Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

She becomes the second cabinet minister in the present NDC administration to have left the government following closely on the heels of sacked Attorney General, Martin Amidu.
