24 year man drowns in River Tain

Taino No.1 (B/A), Sept. 10,GNA– Mr Kwaku Atta, a 24 year-old farmer of Dagarti extraction reportedly got drowned in river Tain, that drains most settlements in the Jaman South District of Brong-Ahafo.

Mr. Kofi Boateng, father of the deceased, told Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Taino, that the incident occurred last Monday when the deceased and his twin-brother Kwaku Atta, aka Ador Quathafi and Kwasi Daniel, aka Blackie, were seeing him off to cross the river to Asare town.

He said on getting to the river banks, he(Mr. Boateng) decided to swim across the river since the wooden bridge on it had given way due to a heavy downpour in the area the previous night.

“When I got to the other side of the river and turned to wave goodbye to my children, I heard Kwasi Daniel shouting to me that Kwaku Atta had drowned in the river”, Mr Boateng said.

Kwaku Atta had apparently decided to swim behind him to Asare town but got drowned in the process.

Mr Boateng said he discontinued the journey and quickly dived back into the river while Blackie also set off from the other side of the river to search for Kwaku Atta but their efforts proved futile.

They therefore hurriedly rushed back home to inform the community who in turn organised a search party but still could not locate Kwaku.

Police Inspector Governor Wilberforce, in-charge of Adamsu Police Station, confirmed the incident to GNA and said he had reported the incident to his superior officer, Mr. Jerome Kanyong, District Police Commander, at Sampa.

Meanwhile, people in the area have called on the government to rehabilitate the road and the bridge to save lives and property
