Germans Marketing Nana Addo

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) appears to have secretly contracted the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a German Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), to lead its international marketing and media hyping strategy for its candidate William Nana Akufo-Addo, ahead of the 2012 general elections.

Nana Addo has been in Pretoria, South Africa, this week and was supposed to have delivered a paper at the University of Pretoria Law Auditorium, yesterday, August 4, 2011, on the theme: “Outlawing Criminal Libel Laws In Ghana.”

This is the second time that the NPP Presidential candidate is appearing on a platform created by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the German group with ties to German chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives, the Christian Democrats.

The first instance was in September 2010, when ex-President John Kufuor, appeared in the German capital of Berlin, on a similar platform, as guest of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung governance body, where ex-President Kufuor, in his speech, expressed uncertainty about the ability of Akufo-Addo to win the December 7, 2008, presidential election.

Also on that trip with President Kufuor was the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey.

The present conference in Pretoria is on African Constitutionalism and is being organized in partnership with the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria in conjunction with the African Network of Constitutional Lawyers.

Nana Akufo-Addo is on the programme in his capacity as former Foreign Secretary of Ghana and 2012 presidential candidate.

Other Ghanaians at the South African Conference were Prof. Kwasi Prempeh of Seton Hall University School of Law, who is also a known NPP sympathizer, and Prof. Kofi Quashigah of the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana, Legon.

Kwasi Prempeh was a panelist in the discussion of “The role of the executive’ under the African Constitutionalism: “Present Challenges and Challenges and Prospects for the Future”.

Under the same theme, Quashigah, also as a panelist, will look at “Constitutional Durability and Constitutional Change”. Details of the programme and Nana Addo’s speech are yet to be released.

On the trip to Pretoria, were Nana’s Press Secretary, Herbert Krapa and NPP National Youth Organiser, Anthony Karbo.
