After deciding not to contest in the party's primaries prior to the 2020 general elections due to the unfair treatment he received from his own party, he decided to run as an independent candidate. He had been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which, citing Article 3(9) of its constitution, revoked his membership and notified the Speaker of Parliament, who duly declared his seat vacant on 13 October 2020 under the provisions of Article 97 (1)g of the Constitution. Amoako objected on the grounds that being expelled from the party did not mean he was no longer a member of parliament, and that only the Parliament of Ghana could revoke his position as an elected MP. The NDC should challenge those NPP parliamentary candidates contesting as independent candidates to vacate their seats in parliament as the law demands to prevent the NPP as a party from benefiting from that unlawfully.

I beg to differ with Kwaku Azar.The Constitution is quite clear.The Constitution does not mention the next Parliament.The provision in the Constitution is quite definite about the current Parliament and that was how Professor Mike Oquaye took that decision to declare Asiamah's seat vacant.The same principle must apply again this time round.

Haruna is right; the constitution says so. But, it doesn't mean the NDC will be declared majority. If those MPs must vacate their seats, there must be by-elections asap to replace them. So that's no a shortcut to majority
