Kwaku Boateng Passes Away

Mr Kwaku Boateng, one of the most versatile politicians in Ghana?s post-independence era, is dead at the age of 80.

Widely respected as a patriot and a statement of scrupulous honesty, Mr Boateng brought his outstanding oratory to bear on Ghana?s liberation struggle and held many portfolios in the First Republic, including those of the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, the Minister for the Interior, the Minister for Higher Education and the Minister for Local Government.

He was also a long-standing Member of Parliament (MP) and spent his latter years as an evangelist, employing his power of speech to get more people to become Christians.

Mr Boateng died peacefully last Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Cape Town home of his eldest son, the Rt Hon. Paul Boateng, the British high commissioner to South Africa.
