What are Samia and the New CPP Leadership Doing to the CPP?

The Samia Nkrumah led CPP leadership has been going around the country blaming those who want nominations for parliamentary and presidential primaries to be opened in November this year. They claim they want to organize the party from the polling station level up. They say they want to avoid one percent election results. Samia Nkrumah has even gone to the extent of threatening to resign her position as Chairman. She has sworn not to abide by the CPP constitution because it prescribes an earlier election of candidates!

Some predicted that she would do this. She openly, deliberately defied the old national executives and refused to work with them in every way. Urged on by the likes of Professor Badu Akosa and Nii Akomfrah, she refused to recognize them as leadership saying that as the only MP, the CPP started and stopped with her. She refused to meet with the leadership to discuss parliamentary matters. She flatly refused invitation to join the CPP Shadow Cabinet! Such indiscipline was tolerated since no one wanted to soil the Nkrumah name.

She teamed up with Badu Akosa to resist the efforts of the Abu Sakara-led Organisation Committee formed to organize the party from the polling station level up. She stood up at Central Committee and clearly stated her firm refusal to contribute money to help organize the party. She was in a hurry to become chairman pf the party never mind the fact that we did not even have executives in some constituencies! She openly shouted at then chairman Nylander at meetings and often challenged him in insulting ways.

A handful of members spent a lot of money to make sure that the party was able to organize from the ward level to enable elections from wards to constituencies then to regions. They made it possible for Samia and the leadership to be elected with NO sacrifice or contribution from her. She kept her money in her pocket and used it directly by paying delegates to elect her. She knew the CPP's problems back then. Now that she has got what she wants, she wants to change the rules and frustrate the whole party. Why? What has changed and what is firing her dictatorial actions?

The party's new constitution does not give the power to decide on parliamentary and presidential elections to her or the leadership. It is the right given to the Central Committee. Knowing that she cannot control this Committee, she has only organized one meeting since she became chairman. She is bypassing the Central Committee and appointing her own units to run the party instead of the committees that the Central Committee is to appoint per our constitution.

We now understand her very well. She sold us some sweet words to get elected and is now showing her true colours. She wants to destroy the CPP and replace it with her own aided by the likes od Richmond Akomfrah a UK based man, Kwamw Jantuah, Nana Apau and Badu Akosa. Word in the party is that she want to become a presidential candidate in 2016 and wants to frustrate anyone who wants the CPP to do well in 2012. She does not care who she hurts in the climb to get what she wants.

We have all been silent not wanting to disturb our chances for success in 2012. But now we know that she has already written the party off. Some say she is in bed with the NDC knowing that a win for President Mills will not disturb her plans for 2016. But we will not leave her to disgrace her father like that. She cannot sell the party like that. Before she was brought to Ghana and given a safe seat and money to campaign, others had sacrificed to make sure a CPP existed. Her father founded the party. But is is not a family property to be toyed with anyhow.
