The leader of the displaced Ghanaians in Vonkoro and other villages scattered within the Bouna Region of Cote d'Ivoire, Kawuro Kwasi David, has emphasised that until they get assurances from the Yagbonwura and the President of the Republic of Ghana, they cannot return home.

When asked if they'd return to Ghana as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, urged them to, the leader expressed misgivings, saying they cannot just return home without assurances from those who matter that they'll be safe if they do that.

"We want to return home, but we cannot do so without being assured of our safety. If our King, Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, as well as President Mahama assure us of our safety, we shall return home" he stated.

"We cannot tell if peace has prevailed now and if it will continue to be so. We cannot just wake up and leave here for our homes in Ghana when we are not sure our safety is guaranteed" he added.

"The Yagbonwura is our father. If he tells us, 'my children, return home, for nothing will happen to you upon your return', we shall not hesitate to return home. The President must also assure us of adequate security if we return, and these are the only reasons for us to go back" he explained further.

Scores of residents in the Savannah Region of Ghana lost their lives with several thousands fleeing the conflict to seek shelter.

An estimated number of 13,000 people ran to Cote d'Ivoire as refugees while a sizable number also fled to Burkina Faso.

The Minority side on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, delegated Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh and three others to visit the displaced Ghanaians in and around Vonkoro in the Bouna Region of Cote d'Ivoire.

The meeting, amongst other things, was to ascertain the true facts of the issues pertaining to the number displaced, those believed to have returned home and their general well-being while in Vonkoro and it's surrounding areas.
