The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reaffirmed his commitment to fighting poverty-driven educational exclusion as his foundation marks 25 years of transformative interventions.
Speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, the monarch traced the organisation's evolution from its inception in 1999, shortly after his enstoolment.
"Our ancestors secured this land through might, but today's battles demand different weapons, educated minds, good health, and cultural unity. I understood that if we were to preserve the heritage they bequeathed to us and prepare our children for the future, we would have to wage a different kind of battle: a battle against ignorance, disease, poverty, and disconnection from our cultural soul," he told dignitaries, including former President Kufuor and British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson.
The Foundation, which began as the Otumfuo Education Fund supporting 600 university students, has since expanded into health, sanitation, and cultural preservation.
“With this reorganisation, I sought to bring unity, accountability, and efficiency to our work, and I’m proud to say that what we have achieved so far is both humbling and inspiring,” he noted.
The Asantehene urged guests to partner with the Foundation in its mission to transform lives, stressing that their support could help educate underprivileged Ghanaian children who might otherwise be denied that opportunity.
“Tonight, I call on you not just to give, but to partner with us. Let your gift tonight be a legacy and a bridge between what we have achieved and what we still hope to do.
“Let us ensure that no child in Ghana is denied education because of poverty. Let us stand with our teachers, support our clinics, strengthen our culture, and invest in a future where Asanteman and Ghana flourish in harmony and dignity,” he mentioned.
Former board members received Distinguished Service Awards, while partners such as Unijay and Zongo Nkosuohene were honored with plaques.
The evening also saw citations presented to the Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College-TEIN for supporting the President's 'Reset Agenda'.
The celebration brought together traditional leaders, business figures including Alhaji Yussif Ibrahim, and clergy representatives such as Bishop Joseph Osei Bonsu, the Foundation's first board chair.
