Parts of the Accra-Winneba Highway has been left unmotorable after portions of the road collapsed on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
According to reports, parts of the highway at Okyereko caved in after the diversion of the nearby River Ayensu, by a contractor.
Viral visuals of the incident sighted by GhanaWeb showed part of the highway completely washed off.
A video shared by Accra-based Metro TV showed the road overtaken by water from the river.
The vehicles on the road were using one side seeing that the other was completely washed away.
Some men could be seen directing traffic as vehicles, including gas tankers, dangerously drove through the flooded road.
Reports indicated that the water from the river also flooded farmlands and parts of the Gomoa Okyereko community.
