University of Energy basketball club wins GSP basketball league

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Basketball Club over the weekend won the second season of the GSP Basketball League.

The league was founded in 2015 by Mr Edward Twum Anane, a lecturer at the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) at Fiapre near Sunyani Lecturer, to promote the development of the sport in Brong-Ahafo Region.

UENR club was declared winner on the basis of superior point’s difference as the team tied with Suncity Braves, with 24 points each, at highly watched competition at the Eusbett Hotel Basketball court in Sunyani.

Suncity Braves won the first season of the league in 2015, after a nail biting final game with the UENR campus Club, a press statement made available to Journalists in Sunyani indicated.

Recognised by the by the Ghana Sports Authority, and the Ghana basketball Association, the participating clubs took home trophies and undisclosed sums of money.

Fifii Brew of the UENR club was adjudged the most valuable Player.

According to the statement in support of the government efforts to promote basketball in schools, two tertiary institutions would be admitted into the league in the 2017/2018 season which starts in September 2017.
