Media personality and political pundit Agya Kwabena was nearly in tears as he expressed concern about the plight of some Ghanaian students studying in Morocco.
Speaking on Accra-based United Television, the broadcaster shared videos of the Ghanaian students who had protested at the Ghanaian embassy in Morocco to demand their stipends, which have not been paid for over 10 months.
The students talked about the hardships they face in affording basic necessities like food, rent, and personal hygiene items.
“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid. We can't even afford basic things like sanitary pads. And even when our parents send us money, it's not enough here,” one student tearfully pleaded.
“Our landlords are chasing us, some of us are staying with friends, others are sleeping outside. Some are in debt and being pursued.
"The last time someone almost committed suicide. We are begging the government, please help us,” another student lamented.
Agya Kwabena, who almost broke down in tears when addressing the matter, criticized the government for neglecting the students while government officials receive high payments.
“We have given these children scholarships to study in Morocco. Look at their situation.
“They can't even afford to buy sanitary pads! Yet, someone here is being paid $3000 in allowances.
“But we are here singing and dancing as if everything is okay? Why?
“And it's not just them, there are other students in other countries facing similar situations.
“Why are we treating them like this?” he questioned.
