UEW book ticket for UPAC Basketball Championship

Accra, March 29, GNA - University of Education, Winneba booked their ticket for the first ever Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship at the Nkrumah Basketball Court, University of Cape Coast after they beat Tarkoradi Polytechnic 56- 52 in the finals of the Zone 1 competition.

It was a breath-taking final with the action swinging from one end to the other but in the end it was key man and the championship's most talented player, Benjamin Debrah, whose skills and ability that saw him make use of rebounds that clinched the sweet victory for UEW. The two sides cruised their way into the finals with an unbeaten reco= rd.

Tarkoradi Polytechnic demolished Cape Coast Polytechnic 40-22, whilst UEW on the other hand dismissed University of Cape Coast with a score of 40-31 to book places in the finals of the competition. UCC had to contend themselves with the third place by beating rivals Cape Coast Polytechnic 38-29 in the third place game. The championship enters Zone 2, on April 2, with University of Ghana, Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), Accra Polytechnic and Central University College seeking for the two slots from the zone for the national championship, fixed for University of Ghana later in April.

The 2011 UPAC basketball championship is under the auspices of Tigo and supported by DDP Outdoor, TV3, Metro TV, TV Africa and produced by Rite Multimedia- leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
