Tricycle rider punished to sweep for littering

A Berekum Divisional Crime Officer, Franklin Yevugah, on Sunday punished a tricycle rider to sweep an area of about 150 metres for littering.

The policeman is said to have chased the driver of the tricycle, popularly known as 'pragya' after he threw an iced-water sachet out of his car.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Mr Yevugah explained that the driver, identified as Kwasi Stephen’s punishment was to serve as deterrence to others.

“I was driving behind him and saw him drop the sachet so I took him to the station where he left his tricycle to sweep. This is to ensure the government’s sanitation agenda is achieved and we are going to continue this,” he said.

The suspect, Kwasi Stephen, apologised for his conduct and promised not to repeat it.

He also appealed to the authorities to provide dustbins at vantage points in town where people could easily locate them and dispose of waste.
