Three alleged drug dealers appear in court

Accra, July 5, GNA - Three alleged drug dealers appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday.

The accused persons; Frank Adonu 40, a driver, Lucky Korto 27, a refrigerator mechanic and Saviour Gakpo 27, an aluminium fabricator, pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of narcotic drugs and stealing.

They were remanded into prison custody to re-appear on July 20. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cletus Abagamlawra, prosecuting told the court that on June 11, this year, the Narcotic Unit of Ghana Police Service embarked on an operation in the Accra metropolis.

He said during the operation, the accused persons were arrested at Abelenkpe, an Accra suburb on suspicion of dealing in narcotic drugs and during interrogation led the Police to a house at Abelenkpe.

DSP Abagamlawra said a search of the room occupied by Korto revealed 10 fertilizer sacks containing 298 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

He said Adonu claimed ownership of the dried leaves and alleged that he collected them from an accident scene at a spot near Asikuma in the Volta Region about three months ago.

The prosecutor said Adonu told the Police that he contacted Gakpo who directed him (Adonu) to see Korto for a place to keep the dried leaves while he (Gakpo) arranged for a buyer.

After investigations, they were charged with the offences.
