The rise of Fancy Gadam

Quite a number of people are still astonished as to how Fancy Gadam managed to win those two very competitive categories at last night's 34th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. You shouldn't be surprised. Well not much.

Fancy Gadam announced his arrival on the national stage last year after winning New Artiste of the Year at the prestigious VGMA ceremony, beating Medikal. He achieved that feat because he filled up stadiums and theatres from Tamale to Kumasi to Accra. He has certainly improved upon his effort by releasing banger after banger; endearing him to the Ghanaian populace.

Last night, Fancy Gadam beat Sarkodie, Captain Planet et al to win Hiplife Song of the Year. So great is that feat considering the popularity and airplay of Sarkodie's 'Painkiller' and Captain Planet's 'Obi Agyi Obi Girl.' Fancy won that award regardless, having received massive airplay himself of his banger 'TOTAL CHEAT' featuring Sarkodie and his recently released 'Yakachana' featuring Mr.Eazi. Talking of TOTAL CHEAT', fans of the 'pa2pa' hitmaker Patapaa may feel totally cheated after missing out on the Vodafone Song of the Year award to Fancy Gadam.

It goes without saying, like Hamza Suhuyini rightly pointed out after Fancy won, that Fancy Gadam does not have the means to cheat even if he wanted to. 'TOTAL CHEAT' was a very popular song as well, even though not as popular as 'One Corner.' However, the winner of that category was determined by the number of votes each contestant garnered. It is safe to assume, therefore, that, Fancy Gadam 's fan-base is very huge and managed to give him more votes than any other competitor for the Song of the Year.

He is someone who has greatly mastered his craft, even at such a young age; and with two international collaborations in the last few months with and Mr. Eazi, accompanied by very beautiful videos, it is hard to think he didn't deserve those awards. He is rising because he is working hard. He is rising because he is dedicating himself to his craft. Will the sky be his limit?
