Ghanaian international soul, pop and jazz artiste Stephanie Benson is mourning with Asante Kotoko after their team bus was involved in an accident which killed one official.

The award-winning singer said she was praying for the team and fans and wished the injured players and officials a fast recovery.

“Kotoko my deepest condolence. I pray for the team, fans and the injured and wish them a fast recovery,” she tweeted.

The assistant equipment officer of the club, Kofi Asare, has been confirmed dead.

The accident occurred around 9:45pm at Nkawkaw, when the bus ran into a stationary vehicle. The team were returning to Kumasi on Wednesday, 12 July, 2017 after their 0-1 defeat to Inter Allies in a Premier League game.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has described the accident as “devastating and sad”.

A statement from the association said it “has established contact with the club, and our thoughts and prayers are with Kumasi Asante Kotoko, particularly the injured officials and players, who are currently receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw.”

The players and officials suffered double agony as they were robbed off their belongings including laptops, mobile phones and undiclosed amount of money by persons who were thought to be rescues and sympathizers who attended to them moments after the crash.

Nkawkaw based Agoo FM Reporter Yaw Obrimpong Yeboah who was at the accident scene when it happened confirmed the theft to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Thursday.
