‘Stealing, corruption puts no one above the law’ – Rawlings slams Vanderpuye comments

Former President John Rawlings has condemned comments attributed to MP for Odododiodoo which sought to suggest that National Democratic Congress (NDC) will release Abuga Pele from prison if the party wins the next election.

Abuga Pele, a former National Coordinator of the erstwhile Nation Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), is currently serving a six-year jail term for woefully cauisng financial loss to the state.

The Odododiodoo legislator, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, is alleged to have said he is confident that the NDC will win the 2020 elections and release the former public servant afiliated to the party.

In Tweet on Monday, the former President added his voice to the condemnation that has greeted Mr Vanderpuye’s comments, stating that, “if the quest for political power is to release wrongdoers from prison, then the NDC is laying its own foundation to remain in opposition for a long long time.”

He added: “This kind of talk belongs to a handful of people in the NDC leadership who have gained power and influence they do not deserve and the sooner they are packed off the better for the NDC and this country”.

The NDC has also officially condemned the comments by Mr Vanderpuye as absurd, vowing it will not overturn the ruling of the court.
