A former legal advisor to ex-president John Agyekum Kufuor, Victoria Bright, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from politicising the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
According to her, those comments could endanger the entire process.
This appeal comes amid the NPP's vow to protest against the suspension, which they describe as an attack on Ghana's democracy and the judiciary.
“The NPP have the right to demonstrate but at the end of the day, it is not helpful. The committee has been set to handle the issue. Let's allow them to handle it to ensure a smooth process,” she stated.
The NPP's National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), has stated that the party views the suspension as unconstitutional and plans to embark on a nationwide protest.
The suspension follows the establishment of a committee to investigate petitions against the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, as mandated by Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.
The party has also announced a massive protest against the suspension, citing concerns about the judiciary's integrity.
Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution requires a committee to probe allegations against a Superior Court judge if a prima facie case is established.
