President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Hon. Adam Mutawakilu as the Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company.
His appointment aligns with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. He will serve in this capacity until his appointment is approved by the Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
Brief Profile of the Nominee
Hon. Adam Mutawakilu holds an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana and an MSc in Energy Economics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). In 2022, he completed coursework for his MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies at the University of Cape Coast.
Additionally, he earned a Commonwealth Executive Master’s in Business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an Executive Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana School of Governance and Leadership. At the undergraduate level, he obtained a BSc in Administration (Accounting Option) from the University of Ghana.
Hon. Mutawakilu served as the first Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency (2013–2020) after the constituency was split to create the Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency.
In Parliament, he was a member of the Mines and Energy Committee, where he rose to become Vice Chairman and later the Ranking Member.
Under his leadership as Ranking Member, the Minority exposed the botched Ameri Novation Agreement, which ultimately led to the dismissal of Hon. Boakye Agyarko as Minister for Energy. He also served on the Committee on Members Holding Office of Profit.
From 2009 to 2013, Hon. Mutawakilu served as the District Chief Executive for the West Gonja District. Before this, he worked as Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Central Administration.
Hon. Mutawakilu is also a professional teacher with a background in science. Between 1996 and 1999, he taught Core Science, Mathematics, and Chemistry at Damongo Senior High School after earning a Teacher Training Certificate "A" from Bagabaga Training College in 1996.
In 1999, he taught Chemistry part-time at Bagabaga Training College. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Laboratory Technician at the West Gonja District Hospital.
