People leading NPP are leading the party astray - Solomon Owusu

Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has criticised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of steering the party in the wrong direction following its decision to boycott the rerun of elections in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North.

Speaking on TV3 New Day on Wednesday, July 9, Owusu expressed shock over the NPP’s public declaration not to participate in the rerun.

“Those leading the party are leading it astray,” he said.

He described the decision as politically illogical, especially since the polling stations in question are located in areas considered NPP strongholds.

“NPP is now running away from polling stations in Bintu … their stronghold. Then there’s something monumentally wrong somewhere,” he observed.

Solomon Owusu further questioned the party’s strategy, suggesting that even in areas like Nyamekye, which are known NPP support bases, there should be no challenge if the party is confident and well-prepared.

“Growing up and knowing the composition of voters in Nyamekye, who can convince me that the NPP, if well-organised, cannot go there and win?” he asked.

He argued that a press conference is not a legitimate means to withdraw from an electoral process and urged the NPP to follow the appropriate procedures if it truly intends to pull out.

“If today the NPP says they will not participate in any election involving Ablekuma North, then it’s a source of concern,” he stressed.
