#OFOR Campaign: Car owners no longer want us to ply Obuasi road – Drivers lament

Information gathered by the “Asanteman Akwan” project team has revealed that car owners in the Ashanti region no longer want their drivers to ply the Anwia-Nkwanta-Obuasi road due to its deplorable state.

Speaking in an interview with Otec FM’s Evans Agyei Sikapa as he reported on the state of “Asanteman Akwan”, Stationmaster of the Anwia-Nkwanta, Obuasi, Jacobu and Bogoso station Mr. Akwasi Boakye stated that their station which had over 90 cars now operate only 23 cars since car owners have warned their drivers not to operate on the stretch.

He explained that the road has become an accident-prone area due to the poor performance of the contractor working on the road.

Mr. Boakye blamed the contractor; Joshob for being the cause of series of accidents on the road as he has failed to water the dusty road making it difficult for drivers and pedestrians to identify each other when using the road.

He added that the Oda river bridge which links Anwia-Nkwanta to Obuasi and its environs has become a death trap as metal skeletons of it have become exposed.

Some drivers of the Obuasi Station also told Evans Agyei Sikapa that working on the said road has become very difficult as they spend all their daily earnings on car maintenance and medical care as the dust on the road makes them ill.

They added that the bad state of the road has given armed robbers the avenue to attack them since police patrol on the road is very limited.
