Former Ghana youth player Ishmael Yartey says there is no way Ghanaian clubs can cut the wages of their players.

According to him, salaries of locally-based players are nothing good to write home about.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some foreign clubs are cutting the wages of their players.

“To be very sincere with you, I think that this pay cut issue cannot be used in Ghana; to be sincere, some of the salaries the players in Ghana take, sorry to say, are embarrassing.

“For me, I think that the players that playback home in Ghana should be able to take their full salary because if we decide to take something from their salaries, they will be left with nothing”, he told Joy Sports.

Continuing, he noted that the method being used abroad cannot be used in Ghana because the salaries in Ghana are peanuts.

He urged all Ghanaians to follow the preventive measures to ensure a healthy life.

Ismael Yartey played for Under 17 and Under 20 national football teams.

He presently plays in Saudi Arabia for Hetten FC.
