‘Nana Addo is now a tyrannical opposition leader’

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB), Kwadwo Twum Boafo has described New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a ‘tyrannical opposition leader’ who is on a mission to eliminate persons who do not side with him in his party.

The avouched critic of the opposition leader speaking on Accra-based Radio Gold on Saturday said his description of the astute politician stems from recent deaths in the NPP party which can be traced to the suspension of Paul Afoko as National Chairman of the party.

“For the first time in the history of this country, we have an opposition leader who is a tyrannical leader who is mainly responsible for killing people when they are opposed to him…,” he said.

The GFZB CEO was commenting on the killing of an NPP member in Asawase in the Ashanti Region as a result of the internal disagreement in the party.

Abubakar Saddiq was part of the angry Akufo-Addo loyalists who locked up the Asawase Constituency office, Thursday in protest of comments made by the Chairman of the Constituency, Isaac Brenya.

Brenya had called on the 2016 NPP flagbearer Nana Addo to step down. Isaac Brenya, who was in Accra, was part of a demonstration against the party's decision to suspend its National Chairman Paul Afoko.

The deceased and several other supporters had threatened to beat up Mr Brenya for supporting suspended National Chair Paul Afoko and for making comments they thought was derogatory for Nana Addo.

Saddiq was said to have gone to the constituency office on hearing the office had been ransacked Friday morning but was attacked and murdered by unknown assailants.

The New Patriotic Party has condemned the unfortunate incident and called for investigations into it.

The unfortunate incident which comes months after the gruesome murder of the Upper East regional chairman of the party, Mahama Adams, Twum Boafo said lays credence to the lack of freedom of expression in the NPP.

“Right now within the NPP in opposition, people do not have the right to freely express themselves…Adams Mahama was murdered because of his refusal to accept Paul Afoko as Chairman, someone was killed yesterday because of the same problem….,” he opined.

He further questioned the leadership capabilities of Nana Ado arguing that he was not sure the opposition leader cannot manage dissenting views in the country if voted to become the country’s President.

“If Nana Addo comes to power and the NDC is demonstrating here and there, are we going to be killed…is he going to kill us simply because we are against him…?,” he asked rhetorically.
