NPA boss saves Ghana $300 million in fuel fraud – Franklin Cudjoe

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority(NPA), Hassan Tampuli, through his stellar performance has saved the country $300 million which would have been lost to the state through fraudulent fuel practices this year.

This is according to Founding President and CEO of policy think-tank, Imani Africa, Franklin Cudjoe who hailed Hassan Tampuli for showing patriotism over self-seeking interest as has been in the case of some state agencies

“Another man doing well in curbing waste is CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Hassan Tampuli. But for his vigilance, Ghana would be losing over $300m to fuel fraud this year,” Franklin Cudjoe revealed on social media.

Before mentioning Mr Tampuli for praise, he had lauded the effort of Nana Akomea who is the Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC) that had led to a marked improvement in the services provided by STC.

Hassan Tampuli who is a private legal practitioner, became CEO of the NPA in 2017 when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed the reins of power. As CEO, he has been hailed for his outstanding performance, especially in tackling smuggling of petroleum products.

In 2019 he was adjudged Outstanding Petroleum CEO of the Year at the 9th edition of the Ghana Entrepreneur and Corporate Executive Awards ceremony held in Accra which saw 41 CEOs from both the public and private sectors being honoured.

Similarly, he has won several of those awards internationally for his meritorious contribution to the growth of the entity he has been made head.

It is however unclear what specific incident would have occasioned the loss of the amount to the state but fuel fraud basically involves dishonesty in fuel deals such as under declaration of quantity or deliberate mislabeling by criminals to beat the system.
