New Patroitic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwaa has revealed that his decision to push vehemently for the Ghana-US Military deal was informed by the demands his constituents made on him to ensure the agreement was ratified as they were in full support of it.

MYNEWSGH.com can authoritatively report the NPP MP and Vice Chairman of the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament said the above. Readers will recall it is the same committee that sat on the agreement at the committee level and recommended to the house its ratification.

He was speaking on UPFRONT with Raymond Acquah on JoyNews yesterday, Thursday.

“I consulted my constituents on my support for the deal” he said.

The host prodded him on how he consulted his constituents, and whether he held a townhall meeting or a consultative assembly, the MP said he spoke to the people and they were in full support of him pushing for the deal.

The host, Raymond Acquah kept pushing him to provide proof that his constituents actually supported the deal, but Hon Collins Owusu Amankwaa, without any proof, maintained that before throwing his support for the ratification of the US-Ghana Military agreement, he consulted his constituents who encouraged him to push for it.

“I even spoke to some chiefs”, he added.

The controversial US-Ghana Military deal has been subject of demonstrations and public discussions with many Ghanaians opposing the agreement as an insult to our sovereignty as a country.

The agreement, to the anger of many Ghanaians, was ratified by parliament.
