Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has been named the 2017 Confederation of African Football's player of the year at the Aiteo CAF Awards in Accra, Ghana.

The 25 year old winger beat fellow Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and for the prestigious honour.

The ex Roma man had a stellar 2017 in which he helped Egypt secure World Cup qualifying for the first time in over a quarter of a century while also having a hand in four of the North Africans' five goals as they finished runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He also performed at club level - scoring 15 goals and making 11 others as Roma finished Serie A runners-up behind Juventus before starting his Liverpool career in equally impressive fashion.

After 26 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, Salah has scored 23 goals and registered eight assists.

Senegal’s Sadio Mane was the first runner while Gabon international Aubameyang finished third.
