List of coaches sacked by Hearts of Oak in the last six Years

Hearts have sacked nine coaches in six years. Hearts have sacked nine coaches in six years.

Ghana Premier League side Hearts of Oak led by Togbe Afede XIV have had nine coaches in six years.

The sacking of Frank Nuttall adds to a tall list of coaches that have worked with the former Ghana Premier League and Africa Champions.

The business mogul became the majority shareholder of the club after the flotation of shares in 2012.

And under the traditional ruler’s administration, nine coaches have worked with club.

C.K. Akonnor

The first coach that was appointed under Togbe Afede XIV’s administration was C.K Akonnor.

Akonnor failed to see through his two-year deal as he sacked for non-performance during the course of the 2012-2013 Ghana Premier League.

David Duncan

David Duncan took over from Akonnor midway through the 2012-2013 Ghana Premier League – Duncan guided the Phobians finished 5th at the end of the League.

Duncan started the 2013-2014 Ghana Premier League on a good note but he was sacked after 10 games, at the time of Duncan’s dismissal the club was second on the log sheet , one point behind Kotoko.

Mohammed Polo

Following Duncan’s departure Mohammed Polo was appointed interim coach, after the 2013-2014 Ghana Premier League, the club’s board decided not to extend his mandate. The Phobians finished the league at the 3rd position.

Herbert Addo

Ahead of the 201-2015 Ghana Premier League, experienced trainer Herbert Addo was appointed as head coach of the club. He was given two years contract but after seven months he was shown the exit for non performance.

Eddie Ansah

Eddie Ansah who was Addo’s assistant coach asked to take charge of the team for the rest of the 2014-2015 season, however, at the end of the campaign, Ansah was sacked.

Kenichi Yatsuhashi

Japanese-American trainer, Kenichi Yatsuhashi, was named as coach of the club ahead of the 2015-2016 Ghana Premier League

With the team’ performance, Yatsuhashi won a lot of hearts at Hearts of Oak but he was sacked at the end of the first round – before leaving, the club was 3rd on the log sheet.

Sergio Traguil

Portuguese tactician Sergio Traguil came in to replace Yatsuhashi, the latter was sacked after six games in the second round.

Yaw Preko

Yaw Preko who was the assistant trainer was tasked to act as interim coach, however, at the end of the 2015-2016 season, Preko resigned from his post.


Frank Nuttall


Frank Nuttall was named coach of the club ahead of the 2016-2017 season, he signed a two-year deal with the club.

He performed well in his first season, helping the club to finish third and also playing in the FA Cup finals but his side lost 3-1 to Kotoko.

The Scottish also failed to see through his two-year deal after he was sacked by the club. He was accused of breaching the club’s code of conduct.
