The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Kapito has stated that the constant noise from chauffeur-driven Land Cruisers of government appointees and Members of Parliament (MPs) has been scaring personnel of the Ghana Police Service and people on the streets and in homes.

He blasted government officials for gaining notoriety in using Landcruisers with sirens, describing the trend as dangerous which needs to be curtailed with immediate effect.

According to him, people run helter-skelter anytime they hear the blast of Landcruiser sirens which tend to increase their blood pressure and end up sustaining injuries from falling.

He observed that the ‘disgusting and shameful act’ perpetuated by some government officials has been a source of worry to passers-by and commuters wondering why the police have refused to arrest them.

Mr Kapito said the police officers on the country’s roads are scared of losing their jobs hence are unable to arrest government appointees and rich folks who drive Landcruisers with sirens on.

He advised the President to talk to his appointees who use siren Landcriuisers to desist from the act if they are not in a hurry to attend an emergency programme or have any special duties which require their urgent attention.

He indicated that no one is above the laws calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante Appeatu, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery and heads of security agencies to ensure that government appointees and citizens who drive Landcruisers with sirens are made to face the full rigours of the land.

The CEO of Consumer Protection Agency feared unscrupulous persons can use similar Landcruisers to rob the Bank of Ghana which will not augur well for the country’s economy.

He suggested that only police vehicles, national security cars, and President and his vice’s cars should be allowed to be chauffeur-driven with sirens on.

‘This trend of government appointees driving Landcrusiers with sirens is disgusting, I urge the IGP David Asante Appeatu and the interior Minister Ambrose Dery and all heads of security agencies to act up, nowadays the police are unable to stop government appointees and rich folks who drive black Landcruisers and Prados from scaring people are with their sirens, it’s very shameful and the act must be stopped,’ he fumed on Neat FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

Actress Moesha Boduong also took to her twitter page to ask President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the sort of problems at stake which requires 10 siren cars pushing people off the road.

‘Dear NAkufoAddo, with your 10 cars and siren pushing every one of the road, what problem are you solving? I mean, what problems are you rushing to go and solve,? Can the society feel the impact of your rushing and pushing them off the road?,’ she twitted.
