Kwesi Appiah keen on good performance in Mexico, USA friendlies

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he is eyeing a good performance from the Black Stars when they play Mexico and the United States next week.

The Black Stars trainer said even though he is keen on getting good results in both matches the most important outcome for him is the performance of his squad.

Ghana will play Mexico on Wednesday in Houston and travel to Connecticut three days later to face the United States on Saturday.

While most of the Black Stars supporters will be targeting victories in both matches, Appiah insists the performance of his players will show him progress the team is making.

"The performance and results are both important for us, but our priority will be on performance," Kwesi Appiah told the Graphic Sports.

The Black Stars have to honour the Mexico and USA games because they want to improve on the FIFA Ranking.

The West African giants are currently ranked 49th in the World and 9th on the Africa continent.

They also have an arduous task in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup as they are on the backfoot with Egypt leading with six points while the Black Stars have one.

Ghana will face Congo in two back-to-back matches in September in the next round of qualifiers for the global tournament to be held in Russia next year.

Victories in the two matches will enhance their chances of qualifying and the friendlies against Mexico and the USA is seen as the preparation for September's games.
