Generally, the 2016 general elections came off successfully – but days after the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as winner of the polls, almost every celebrity that endorsed or stood for a position under the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has groused over attacks and threats being meted out by supporters of the winning New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The likes of Mzbel, Mr. Beautiful, Rex Omar, Kwame Dzokoto and others have bemoaned the spate of abuse targeted at them for their show of support for President John Dramani Mahama.

“Since morning, I have not been able to come out of my house. My house was under siege by supporters of the NPP who were with vuvuzelas. They say I should come out and do a video and apologize to Nana Addo. I’m I the only one that supported John Mahama? We were all mocking each other, I never insulted Nana Addo,” Mzbel cried out in the disturbing phone conversation with a friend that has already gone viral.

“The people calling and threatening me are cowards. I am too brave to live in fear. We are in the 21st century, things like this shouldn’t happen,” Rex Omar told MzGee on Hitz FM.

“In the course of their celebrations, the supporters hit and banged on my car anytime I drove through. I am not worried because I know such people do not have a better understanding of what democracy is,” Kwame Dzokoto, who lost his bid to win the Parliamentary slot at Tarkwa Nsweam, told MzGee.

Over the weekend, reports of attack on the wife of actor, Mr. Beautiful, was confirmed by movie producer and NPP fanatic, Socrate Safo – who has stated that, the actor put a distress call to him to complain. A report has already been lodged at the Police Station.

The likes of John Dumelo and Afia Schwarzenneger have also faced virulent bashing on social media.
