Kwahu-bound cars crush 3 kids to death, injure 13 others

Four people, including three children were on Good Friday crushed to death while 13 others got seriously injured in two separate gory accidents at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The three children, between 6 and 11 years, were run over by a Toyota Corolla from Accra heading to Kwahu for the Easter festivities while one male adult (yet to be identified) also died in a separate accident involving a Mercedes Benz bus which was heading to Nkawkaw.

The Nsawam Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Samuel Ntoso confirmed the accidents and said the first one occurred at Pampaso No 1. near Suhum.

According to him, the front tyre of the Accra to Nkawkaw-bound Mercedes Benz bus exploded, resulting in the car rolling over several times killing a male adult instantly.

Twelve other passengers onboard sustained serious injuries and have been hospitalised at the Nsawam Government Hospital.

The body the deceased, according to DSP Ntoso, has been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital awaiting identification and autopsy.

DSP Samuel Ntoso also stated that the second accident involving a Toyota Corolla occurred at Okanta near Nsawam a few hours after the first one.

The Kwahu-bound car from Accra skidded off the road when it got to Okanta and run over four children who were playing in front of their house, which is close to the road. Three of them were killed instantly. The only survivor is in critical condition and has been admitted at the Nsawam Government Hospital, where the three other kids’ bodies have been deposited.

According to the MTTD Commander, both drivers involved in the accident sped off. The Police have mounted a search for them.

There were two earlier accidents Thursday at Kwahu and Koforidua Jumapo which killed three people.
