KNUST students to build hostel

STUDENTS of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have planned to build a hostel to help ease the problem of accommodation facing students in the university.

The over 10,000 students have so far contributed ?20,000 each towards the construction of the hostel which would be named after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in appreciation of what the students termed as his enormous contribution to education development in the country.

The ?20,000 contribution has yielded ?200 million.

The Asantehene would cut the sod for work to begin on the project on Thursday.

The President of the Students Representative Council (SRC), Mr Andrew Osei Okrah, announced this at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi when executive members of the council paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as part of the Akwasidaekese festival on Sunday.

He commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his invaluable contribution towards sustainable education development in the country and said the students fully appreciate the gesture and prayed for long life and prosperity for him.

The Asantehene, in response, praised the students for their initiative and urged them to sustain it to facilitate the further development of the country’s human resource.
