It’s painful to lose on my Ghana debut - Amartey

Ghana right full back Daniel Amartey is ruing the loss against Senegal in his debut Africa Cup of Nations game on Monday.

Describing the defeat as “painful”, the FC Copenhagen guardsman believes the four-time African champions should have won or at least draw to make his start to the national team a memorable one.

Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Teranga Lions of Senegal in the Group C opener of the 2015 Afcon.

“I did not want to taste defeat on my debut game for my country [Ghana] but that is football. It is very painful but we have to bounce back in our next game [against Algeria].

“Senegal played better on the day and deserved to win,” the 20-year-old former Djurgardens defensive midfielder told reporters after the game.

Amartey will be hoping to maintain his place in Ghana's squad against Algeria and South Africa.
