'I heard what you said in the spirit' - Watch as Asantehene displays his 'telepathic' abilities

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, appears to have some telepathic abilities, which he displayed at a recent Asanteman Council meeting.

While adjudicating a matter at the council meeting, one of the women who was party to the matter whispered to a chief standing close to her.

The Asantehene saw her whispering, but it was humanly impossible for the king to hear what she said because of the distance between them and the noise at the council.

But Otumfuo heard every word she muttered to the chief and repeated them at the gathering.

"Afia, what did you tell the chief… I know what you told him. I know this is the spirit. Afi, don't say anything. Let me tell you what you told him.

“You told him that ‘If we don’t get the stool today, you will never return the sacred Amoampong deity’,” the Asantehene said.

He then asked the chief to confirm whether what he said was what the woman told him or not.

The chief affirmed that the Asantehene repeated the exact words Afi had told him.

The woman was one of the royals of Agona who appeared before the Asanteman Council on Monday, July 28, 2025, to seek the forgiveness of the Asantehene.

The Agona royals, who channelled their plea through Tepahene Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem, are seeking pardon over lawsuits filed against the Asantehene nearly two decades ago by their late uncle.

The lawsuits, which the Agona royals ultimately lost, were filed at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and later the Supreme Court.

The legal battle stemmed from an investigation by the Asantehene that concluded the then-reigning queen was not of royal blood.

Compounding the situation, the royals also seized the sacred Amoampong deity and kept it from the enstooled chief.

The royals now seek the king's forgiveness to allow the installation of a new chief to the Agona stool, which has remained vacant since the death of Agonahene Nana Frimpong Anokye Ababio in 2022.
