I am in no position to award contracts to myself – Kwamena Duncan

The Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has refuted claims that he has awarded some 50 road contracts in the Central Region to himself. Assin Central member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong accused the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan of awarding fifty (50) contracts to himself.

Kennedy Agyapong also accused the Central Regional Minister of throwing his weight about even though he contributed absolutely nothing to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign during the 2016 electioneering campaign.

However, speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Kwamena Duncan explained that it does not lie in the power of Regional Ministers to award contracts to themselves.

He also asked the general public to disregard a rejoinder which has gone viral on social media supposedly responding to the statement of Kennedy Agyapong.

“How many contracts are in the Central Region that I can award 50 of them to myself?. I’m a contractor? Or did I employ 50 contractors to bid for the contracts? I mean… Probably the Member of Parliament may have said this on the basis of misinformation”, he asked.

He, however, added that he has spoken with the MP and that whoever wants to bring enmity between the two have failed miserably.

Touching on the security situation at the University of Education, Winneba, Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, who is also a Member of the Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC) stated that calm has been restored in the school even though security personnel could be seen on campus.
