How Dr. Asare intends to rebrand Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital

Dr. Daniel Asare has disclosed that his appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) would bring a lot of transformation to the facility in the coming days.

Dr. Asare, who was selected based on his competence and experience, takes over from the Acting CEO of the KBTH, Dr. Samuel Asiamah.

Speaking in an interview with www.ghanaweb.com following his official “outdooring” Monday, August 27, 2018, the new CEO said he is ready to rebrand KBTH by developing and implementing key intervention programmes and strategies.

First on the list of strategies outlined by Dr. Asare is the introduction of a well-structured bed monitoring system to address the much-talked-about “no bed syndrome” that has being a major challenge of the hospital.

“We’re going to make sure it’s addressed on sustainable basis. We’ve already appointed a bed monitor whose job it is to make sure all available beds are recorded so that patients can be moved in,” he revealed.

According to Dr. Asare, plans are far advanced in improving patients’ transportation from one ward to the other and management would also consider digitising all beds to ensure those available are easily captured for emergencies.



“If the board gives us the go ahead, we’ll digitize all the beds and it’ll look like we have a dashboard in front of a nurse or manager who will see all the beds and tell which one is occupied and which one is available. We’ll even broadcast it with the dashboard in front of the Accident and Emergency for the public to see the occupancy rate,” he noted.

He said, the KBTH would also liaise with other major hospitals including the Accra Regional Hospital, 37 Military Hospital and Police Hospital to completely resolve the 'no bed syndrome' from the health system by transferring patients to facilities with beds.

Dr. Asare is looking forward to engage staff, management and other stakeholders of KBTH to solicit ideas and develop strategies that are critical for the rebranding of the hospital.

He promised to team up with the hospital Board and staff to resolve the challenges of the hospital, uplift public confidence in Ghana’s health delivery system, “to make Ghana safe and support President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Ghana work again”.
