Hot contest in Northern NPP

With barely two weeks for the New Patriotic Party’s regional elections, 39 aspirants have filed their nominations to contest the upcoming northern regional elections.

Filing of nominations ended on Friday and all of them have duly paid the appropriate filing fees for the various positions.

All those vying for the Chairmanship, first vice and second vice positions have paid a filing fee of Ghc1000 each.

For the Chairmanship, four people including the current northern regional NPP Secretary, Dr. Clifford Braimah, Alhaji Rufai Yahaya Iddi and the incumbent regional Chairman, Alhaji Harunah Tia Sulemana, affectionately called Harumbis are in the race.

Businessman cum roads contractor Messrs Bugri Naabu has joined the regional Chairmanship race for the third time.

Seven aspirants are vying for the first vice Chairmanship and they include the former northern regional Director of Zoomlion, Prince Alhassan Baako, former District Chief Executive for Savelugu, Mr. Abubakari Atori, Mr. Shani Shaibu, Alhaji Mugisu Sibawey and Samata Gifty Bukari.

Eight aspirants are contesting the second vice Chairman position.

Sulemana Salifu, Faisal Gbangili and former District Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, Peter Wuni are competing for the Secretary position.

They are expected to appear before the vetting committee which begins sitting on Sunday January 12.

All the contestants are already in the field campaigning and Citi News has gathered that mudslinging and character assassination is top on their agenda.
