New details have emerged about the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of eight high-ranking officials.

Kojo Danquah, the Deputy CEO of the Students' Loan Trust Fund has revealed a startling account regarding alterations made to the flight's passenger list, shedding new light on the devastating event.

Speaking on UTV's Adehye Nsroma Show on Thursday, August 7,2025, Danquah revealed that Dr Samuel Sarpong, the National Vice Chairman of the party, was not initially scheduled to be on the flight.

According to Danquah, National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah was initially scheduled to attend the launch of the Responsible Co-operative Mining and Skills Development Programme (COMSDEP) in Obuasi.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Asiedu Nketiah delegated his duties to his Vice Chairman.

"When we went to Koforidua, my National Chairman explained that he was supposed to be on the flight, but something had come up, so the Vice Chairman should stand in for him," Danquah stated.

"He said he ought to have been on that flight."

The crash of the Z9 helicopter, which belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Others are: Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Members of the helicopter’s crew are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah.
