Galamsey being done in bedrooms – MCE reveals

The Municipal Chief Executive for Konongo Central at Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti region has bemoaned the increasing rate of galamsey operations (illegal mining) in the area.

According to Alhaji Buyoo Brimah, the illegal miners in the town now ply their trade in their bedroom.

Their modus operandi, he explained are to rent rooms on lands rich in the mineral resource especially Konongo Odumase and its environs and do the galamsey in it.

What has made the issue murkier, the Konongo Central MCE noted is that, the galamsey operators use dynamites in their operations causing fear and panic among residents.

Alhaji Brimah added that, he has received several complaints from chiefs, landlords and residents about the illegal mining.

But all efforts by the assembly and the police to arrest the culprits and bring them to book have proven futile.

Alhaji Brimah appealed to the police and the relevant agencies to intervene in the matter to save the lands in the town.

Also, a landlord who spoke to Adom News on condition of anonymity said the situation if not addressed could render residents homeless.
